About Me

My passion is exploring the complex connections between the mind, the body, movement and our emotions and how we can use these connections to improve physical and emotional well-being. I specialize in working with people who have chronic pain and those who suffer from persistent anxiety and trauma symptoms. We keep our focus on what in you is already healthy and functional. Without denying or ignoring what disturbs you and what you see as your problems, we build on the positive and the sense of “I can.”

I work individually with clients in private sessions out of my office in the Beverly Grove area of Los Angeles, and in Richland, Washington.  I also teach group classes and workshops in various locations.

My work is informed by:

  • My strong belief in the possibility of change, healing and personal growth.

  • My respect for your complexity and the uniqueness of your physiology, ways of feeling, thinking, being and doing.

  • My trust in your innate capacities and resilience.

  • My personal history of trauma and my own deep, creative grief work.

My professional experience:

I have a background in singing, performance and writing and have studied many forms of dance and movement. For many years I worked at Women’s Physical Therapy (Santa Monica and Beverly Hills) and The Center for Physical Health in Century City. I’ve taught Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement® classes in various locations in Los Angeles, including the Beverly Hills Recreation Department. I’ve given many Feldenkrais and Move into Joy workshops in both Los Angeles and New York. I am fluent in French and have a good working knowledge of Spanish.

Testimonial

Irene Bowers combines two extremely effective strategies, the Feldenkrais Method and Somatic Experiencing, to help guide her clients to a successful way to care for themselves. Her competence in many fields, including dance, voice and well-being education, allows her to create ideal conditions to help her clients embody improvement. I have recommended patients to Irene and feel that her work is an asset for my PT clientele.
